| I'd happily trade in my gym membership to ride the cable in between boat sessions on Wellington harbour. |

good to see pedantry is alive and well....
Guess we'll just have to be happy with a gay semi-salty semi-tidal cable park. |

Yeah im a bit dubious ive got to say, especially considering what the start up costs are likely to be. Maybe its the conservative banker speaking, but that, Wellingtons weather, limited population, and the salt factor im not too sure.
Having something like that in NZ would be great however, and i wish anyone the best who is wanting to have a go setting it up. |

| I think it's a mighty fine idea - fingers crossed it goes ahead! Might finally give me a chance to repay the hospitality of the mango / taupo /auckland crew - you know who you are. |

dude you made me google the word 'pedantry' ha ha
salt water is all good im sure they will have a rinse off shower for ya. so long as its not a sedimenty muddy pond and sewage doesnt get in the harbour and come for a visit on incoming tides it will be fine.... anyway it will give ya beach hair and an excuse to why your eyes are squinty and blood shot when ya get home
i will def come for a ride aye just build it and it will be mean.
maybe we should get one made on lake D ?? aye ? great idea or what?? . about all its good for i reckon and its prob the right size for it , that water can be pretty feral too tho ha ha

What cable parks will do is make wakeboarding more accessible to the masses, and raise the profile of wakeboarding.
For me personally it will get rid of the frustration of not being able to ride on the harbour because of weather conditions.
I've seen Aotea lagoon at it's worst and it's only ripples!
For all those posing an interest from up north there is a Motel with an indoor pool, and restaurant across the road from the lagoon, so accommodation should not be too much of an issue.
Finding the site is easy as it's next to state highway one with the sourthern end backing onto a major intersection (Papakowhai) |

Sorry, my bad. The lagoon is close to where I live (VERY HANDY!) and I hang out there often as it's a nice spot. Had never noticed any change in the water level so assumed it wasn't tidal. Salt isn't a problem, it's what we Wellingtonians are used to anyway. Looking forward to having a new play spot in my backyard! |

Hey BWake,
I don't think there's a limited population in Wellington - 400,000 approx as I understand it - which suggests to me, if marketed effectively, as a general leisure activity, to the general public (which they state they're aiming to do) as well as core riders/skiers, then it seems to me the park is competing for entertainment spends within a medium sized market, in terms of NZ. Do you think there simply wont be enough interest from core local riders to, say, maintain cash-flow?
The salt water issue you allude to is something I'm not familiar with (being a newby to the sport). I'm wondering what's unattractive about riding in salt water?
m
ps. So far I've counted 4 odd posts from Wellington based riders in this discussion. Are they more? And, how many are in each's crew?
