i would say a sitting dock start would be easiest, with ur board in the water, boat takes off when rope goes tight and you stand up.

Standing dock starts are good, on the edge of the dock with the rope in both hands, boat is idling away and as the rope become tight, accelerates
As the rope is tight you jump up and forward extending your arms.
I know its not a very detailed explaination, but its all i could think of.

Saying all that though, you should just learn how to deepwater start, esp since you are new. Every time you try jumping to begin with you will fall, do u really wanna take your board off and go all the way back to the dock.
Putting in a little more effort and getting proper starts right will pay off.

Good luck with it

yeah, learn the deep water first - no problem. same as sitting on your butt with your knees bent and then someone gives you a pull up frpm in front.

dock starts are easier - once you know what you are doing. no water pressure to fight, just standup (from a sitting dock start)
the big thing i see people do wrong with the jump start is the old ski trick of taking coils! face plant big time.
just a gentle accleration well timed with the jump is all it takes. we tend to take off as the rope starts to lift from the water.

once again - learn to deep water first, you're sure to need it sometime soon!

Yeh i do dock starts ay. I just find that (especially in the winter) it is much more pleasant than jumping in the water and going from there. Its a good thing to learn for several reasons:
-you dont get wet (until you fall off)
-easy to get into bindings
-most competitions you have to dock start, well it looks better

I didnt use to do them ages ago but have since learnt by a few experiments of my own. The sitting dock start is very easy, anyone can do it, but I like the jumping dock start. Its fun to learn.
You just stand on the edge of the dock, boat pulls away slowly, until line is tight, then you jump and boat takes off at the same time. Just make sure you dont lean foward or you'll eat it. (and look stupid)

hehe nice,

I was trying my first dock start, on some muddy weedy grass stuff.. standing up, I was standing there for awhile waiting for the boats to go passed, when everything was sweet the boat started to take off.. I jumped and the board got stuck in the mud and as a result I came out of the bindings and fell in the little amount of water there was Embarassed

One thing to remember is when you land in the water lean away from the boat. That way if you jumped too early you'll still get pulled up rather than pulled over

I dock start all the time now.
once I went to X-Air and saw the pros doing it I gave it a try and it was reasonably easy.

Dock starts real good on those cold days where you wanna go out for a board but can't bring yourself to sit in the water waiting for the boat to come around. one thing I say about when you try it.. let the boat go slow and don't jump to early let the boat pull you forward first.

Keep Riding
