Toronto Islands, Canada – Provided the perfect stage for
the 2006 Wakestock World Series, the event was happily greeted with
blue sky’s and little wind.
Over 35,000 spectators attended over the four days, between the
3 different stages where over 40 bands performed, the Bud Light
beer garden, a skatepark that was jammed every day, a Freestyle
Moto-X Air Assault blowing everyone away and the Canadian Action
Sports Expo & Marketplace was where thousands of attendees blew
money - on surf, skate and street apparel, eyewear, footwear and
gear and of course mind blowing wakeboarding and wakeskating in
the Malibu Expression Session, Billabong Pro Railslide featuring
the world's largest competition rail course with eight different
rails totalling over 300 feet of sliding surface, the Oakley Launch
Pool Invitational featuring the world's biggest and most progressive
jib pool and the Billabong Pro Wakeskate featuring customized, wakeskate
specific rails.
In the Pro Women’s Malibu Expression Session, New Zealander
Andrea Fountain, current WWC World Wakeboard Champion went as a
first timer intending to her make at the biggest action packed event
in the World.
She managed to get the crowd cheering straight off the dock, as
the first rider in the first heat of the Pro Women’s Malibu
Expression Session on Saturday. Taking every trick out to the flats,
her scarecrow 25ft into the flats towards the crowd, hearing them
cheer her on, Fountain carried this performance on to her second
pass, ollieing up onto 3 of the 5 rails that lined the shoreline
within a few metres of the crowd. Fountain won the heat convincingly
progressing through to the Final with American and fellow Maven
rider Barrett Pearlman.
Andrea fountain said in regard to her result from the heat.
“The feeling when your riding your very best taking everything
as big and as clean as you can go is just awesome, and hearing that
crowd cheer definitely gets you pumped!“
Even with a bit of wind blowing the course is untouched, lined
with trees on both sides of the pass Toronto Islands provides Wakestock
with one of the best competition wakeboard sites. The Pro Womens
Malibu Expression Session Final was held on Sunday, the final day
of Wakestock 2006.
Barrett Pearlman went out and unfortunately took several falls,
Sunni Ann Ball, in her home town of Toronto, Canada, she was ready
to lay it down and defend her current Wakestock title, sticking
a solid run. Andrea Fountain representing New Zealand started off
strong with a solid first pass in between troubles with the boat
speed, she took and unfortunate fall on her first trick second pass
she continued on to hit the rails solidly. And then with one rider
to go, as top seed, Melissa Marquardt, another fellow Maven team
rider went out and stomped a technical and clean run, spinning to
win and taking home the prestigious Wakestock Belt.
