Andrea Fountain 5th at Wake Games
Wednesday 2nd May 2007
The first event for the 2007 Northern Hemisphere summer kicked
off this weekend at the Orlando Watersports Complex in Orlando.
Pinnacle athlete Andrea Fountain, backed by Hyundai started her
season off in a strong position.
Riding on Thursday in the quarter-finals Fountain qualified for
the semi’s, placing 2nd in her heat just behind Melissa Marquardt
from the USA.
With a day of rest between the quarters and the semis, the girls
had time to recover and prepare for the semis on Saturday. Fountain
went out and stuck one her best passes in competition – landing
two clean passes including the toeside 540 spin. She came unstuck
only on the rail at the end of her second pass which unfortunately
left her in 3rd place in her heat which had the WWA World Champion
Emily Copeland-Durham and Fountain just missed out on progressing
to the 4 women final on Sunday by 2 points.
Only the top 2 girls from each heat of six made it – a cut
throat competition.
“I was definitely disappointed not to make it through as
I had ridden so well but the rails are worth 30% of your score so
its important to nail them, however I cant be disappointed with
how I rode, to land every trick was a great feeling. The other riders
were pumped on how I rode on the day and that meant a lot and now
I know what I have to work on for the next contest, that’s
the main thing.”
